Philosophy (191 Books)

Philosophy as a category is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument. The word "philosophy" comes from the Greek philosophia, which literally means "love of wisdom".

Sacred Books

By: M. Winternitz

THE period covered by the inception, the publication, and the completion of the Sacred Books of the East exactly coincides with the thirty-four years that I have spent in Oxford. When I matriculated, Professor Max Muller, the editor of the series, was about to begin work on the first volume, which appeared while I was still an undergraduate. I lost no time in making his acquaintance, for it was the influence of one of his works that had stimulated me to begin under Pro...

Habeltt sua lata libelli-not only after they have been published, but sometimes even before they are printed. It was in the spring of 1894 that the late Professor Max Muller first suggested to me that I should compile a General Index of the names and subject-matter for the complete series of the Sacred Books of the East. Such an Index, he thought, would be a great help to all students of the Sacred Books of tile East, and of the greatest value for the study of the history of religions.

Messenger of Bliss : How Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Set Off to Heal the...

By: Martin Zucker

A brief personal account, written by one of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's closest associates, of the very early days of the Transcendental Meditation movement.

Maharishi’s real destination on leaving India was the United States. An American had heard one of his talks and urged him to go to America, that his teaching would really catch on there. Maharishi felt also that if he could popularize meditation in the most progressive and creative country on earth, it would surely accelerate expansion of the practice elsewhere in the world. But getting to America — or anywhere, for that matter — was solely determined by the degree of s...

Finding Your True Passion : Whats Your Real Calling in Life?

By: Mrs. Poonam Mashru

"You cannot become rich or achieve any other kind of success in life if you don't have passion about what you are doing. Be it the simplest thing or the most sophisticated thing, you need passion in order to succeed." It can be so frustating when people advise you, "Just Follow your Passion!" Yeah, sure, you'd love to-if only you knew what your passion was. You're probably the kind of person who works hard, with commitement and persistence. When you know what you're...

Some time ago I heard some group sing, “Love is the answer; Now, what was the question?” What a Mahavaakya (Great pithy statement)! Perhaps it is at the level of the Great Upanishadic Mahavaakyas like Thath Thwam Asi (You are That). "I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness." - Max Planck "Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in the last analysis, we ourselves are part of nature a...

Bhagvad-Gita Treatise of Self-Help

By: BS Murthy

In this modern rendition, the beauty of the Sanskrit slokas is reflected in the rythmic flow of the English verse of poetic proportions. Besides, the attendant philosophy of that is Bhagvad-Gita is captured in contemporary idiom for easy comprehension.

All about Life-Chapter 2 This character defining chapter of the Gita comprising 72 slokas, known assaankhya yoga, Realization through Knowledge, is regarded by many, as the peerless part of the great epic. Arjuna’s dilemma, meanwhile, turns into grief, as the horrific prospect of slaying Bhishma, his revered granduncle, and Drona, his venerated guru, sinks into his consciousness. Bogged down by sentiment, Arjuna appeals to Lord Krishna for guidance. The Lord’s response ...

By: Fritz Dufour

The Realities of 'Reality' - Part I: It All Starts from Within : W...

By: Fritz Dufour

This book is the first of a series that considers the many aspects of reality. I call it ‘It all starts from within’ because reality starts with each of us individually and independently. It starts from our inner self before evolving into what I would call the collective reality, meaning a generally agreed upon state in which groups of people, entire nations, or the whole world believe. That reality includes beliefs, cultures, ideologies, etc. As we change and adapt to o...

If this year was the year 202018, meaning 200,000 years from now and I was writing about reality, where would I begin? What would be the basis that I would use for my arguments? Would I still be able to talk about philosophy, psychology, art, mathematics, chemistry, physics and quantum mechanics? Would I be able to talk about the brain and the mind the same way I do today? Would I be able to speculate about life and death? Would these topics still be relevant in the gran...

A Philosophical Reproach to Climate Change : A Tool to Teach Heat ...

By: Luisiana Xavier Cundin

Provides critical reproach to the cornerstone concept for Climate Change. Throughout history, the phenomenon of heat has caused much consternation for scientists, heat being more often misconstrued an object rather than energy, whose error is commonly seen among children attempting to grasp the concept of heat; once the misperception of heat being an object be made, the thinker is lead astray immediately, causing many derivative errors in thought. So is the case in that ...

It is indeed a rare occurrence to encounter so grave a philosophy as occasioned by Climate Change, especially, within our Science; but, to be afforded an opportunity, so fortuitous, to enable overturning accepted theory is even rarer still. If one should allay, if only momentarily, hysteria conjured up by those more dire prognostications of this rather dreary eschatology, one should find their intellect free to reckon with a rather foolish error. There, at the heart of t...

Gelecek ile Yuzlesmek

By: Ph.D. HB Paksoy; Yusuf Oktay Solak, Compiler

Humans on Mars, and Beyond

By: Ph.D. HB Paksoy

Mars, to our current knowledge, does not contain any native populations. However, the Earthlings arriving there, once again, will bring their own institutions with them. In this case, we may even surmise, more than one system, given the proliferation of space technology among nations of diverse backgrounds. That also means there will be more than one culture, as well as Governance method. Does that herald a clash of cultures and Governance modes? At that point,...

It can be argued that the primary use of history is to learn the lessons from the experiences of the past human polities. The familiar timeline that is usually attached to historical study is necessary in order to know the flow of events in the proper sequence. The lessons will be skewed if Reformation is considered before Christ. Then comes the most critical of the steps; how those lessons are identified and learned. Perhaps it is easier to notice a lesson than lea...

Identities : How Governed, Who Pays

By: Ph.D. HB Paksoy

3. According to my records, this effort was begun in 1983. In the ensuing years, I filled close to a dozen notebooks on various aspects of identity. For the first sixteen years of this process, the primary idea was to better understand the nature of the subject. 4. While teaching courses on World History and Intercultural Studies in four different universities, perceptive student questions on these topics further stimulated the process. 5. What finally pers...

1. There are always Secret Identities in every polity. 2. The purpose of constituting a secret identity is to escape the prevailing rules in the environment in which the identity is established. 3. Some secret identities are regular identities, forced underground by the dominant identity. 4. Some secret identities are formed to gain advantage over other identities in the same polity. 5. Further secret identities are formed in order to secure the...

Absolute Evil : and other Paradoxes of Objective Ethics

Popular introduction to objective ethics.

Reductio ad Absolutum, avagy visszavezetés a teljességre(be)

By: József Tamás Fazekas

By: József Tamás Fazekas

By: József Tamás Fazekas
